About the event

Harm Reduction for Peers provides an overview of harm reduction principles, defines the role of peers in harm reduction work, outlines the benefits of harm reduction, and reviews established strategies in harm reduction. Participants will be given an opportunity to define their values around harm reduction, determine any biases they may have with regards to harm reduction, and identify peer's role in reducing the stigma of harm reduction. Finally, participants will be given real-life scenarios to challenge their understanding of harm reduction in action.


Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to define harm reduction and recovery

  2. Participants will have an understanding of national frameworks and guidance in harm reduction

  3. Participants will identify their values and challenges their biases in harm reduction

  4. Participants will be able to discuss the stigma associated with harm reduction and the role of peers in addressing this stigma
